This is a quick DNF covering the AUDIOBOOK ONLY!

I’ve tried (and failed) to get into this book twice. I made it about 5 – 6 chapters on my first listen and couldn’t follow along. I picked it up again to give it a proper listen, and after nearly 2 chapters, I’m done with this shitty, inexcusably lousy narration.

I’ve not listened to an audiobook in a while, and it’s shitty narrations such as this that strip the joy out of the experience for me. At first, I thought the narrator was using the voice of Lucas for the scene setting. He somewhat deepened his voice for Lucas’ father’s voice, and it was terrible but serviceable. Then the reader is introduced to Lucas’ mother and sister and they have the exact.same.voice as the scene setting/Lucas…..

Whatever then, I dislike DNF’ing books if I can avoid it. Then I hear the line “He didn’t know this would be the last evening he’d spend in the company of his family” in the same jovial tone of voice that everything else is read in. As if the narrator just lacks any talent whatsoever, or is a psychopath who gets off on seeing families destroyed.

As I said, I dislike DNF’ing books, however, there are more books being published than I will ever have time to read and I see no reason to suffer through a garbage narration when I could be listening to something well-produced.
