I’ll be reviewing this collection in my preferred format. I’ll be doing a mini-review for each story on Saturday’s and Sundays, until I’ve reviewed the entire collection. After which, I’ll provide my thoughts on the collection as a whole.

I Am the Ring, My Heart Is the Mat, My Bones Are the Ropes

I like it. I wasn’t sure what to expect, as sports aren’t my thing at all, but body horror very much is. It didn’t over-use sports terms and leave me lost. It was extremely creative and descriptive, which painted a vivid picture and the story it told was interesting, to say the least.

The Swish Heard ‘Round Central Nebraska

Author: Tim Meyer
Pages: 21 – 34
Review Date: September 4, 2022

I have some unanswered questions, regarding the alien-sounding space dust the characters mentioned in the story. It seems as if the ‘protagonist’s family is going through some sort of changes, while he seems relatively normal through it all.

I like the way time is moved forward, where each line plays into the start of the next paragraph. I found that extremely creative.

The ending is something else. It was like a scene from a horror movie in slow motion, as people don’t realize what’s going on, making it all the better for it.

I’m Gonna Make You A Legend

Author: Brandon Applegate

This story is gold. It’s vile, gruesome, and disgusting in all the right ways. As I was reading, I kept thinking *this* is what I think of when I think ‘Body Horror’. This (to me) is one of those ‘The collection is worth a purchase for this story alone’ stories. The ending is just the icing on the cake, I can’t get over how perfect that ending was.
