The only thing of value I can tell you with this review, is that this is “part 3” and not “book 3”. If you’re at all interested in this series and haven’t read or listened to the first 2 books yet, I highly suggest you pick up all 4 and give it a shot. If you’ve enjoyed 1 and 2, and wonder if #3 will be your thing; it will be. If you’re 2 books in and thinking “I don’t know if I like this series enough to continue….”, you’re a fucking moron. I don’t know what else to say.

I don’t just mean “I don’t know what else to say” to somebody dumb enough to read/listen to the first 2 books and be unable to decide if the series is for them or not. I mean I have no-fucking-clue what to say about this series. I purchased the audiobook for books 1 – 3 on October 23, close to a year ago. I’ve listened to this fucking book 4 times and I still don’t know what to say about it. I keep putting off my review, and re-listening to it to refresh my memory and ending up back here.

I’m writing this “review” because I review every book I read or listen to. If you liked the first 2 books, this book is more of the same. Imagine one greater novel that has been evenly chopped into 4 parts. This leaves me in this awkward as shit middle ground. It’s not the ending of the series, so I can’t comment on the experience as a whole. And it’s not the beginning anymore, so I can’t talk about first impressions.

So what do I say? I enjoyed it, obviously. 4 fuckin’ listens in and I still thoroughly enjoyed myself. There are moments that made me laugh, moments that left me tense, and moments that sent shivers down my spine. I enjoyed the combat, world-building, lore, and character growth. And I really, really fucking hate typing up alphabet soup “reviews” like that, because I could apply that to dozens of stories I’ve listened to or read over the years.

At this point, I’m writing this “review” for the purpose of closure, so I can finally fuckin’ move on to book 4 in this series. I received book 2 as a review copy, and purchased an audiobook copy of book 1. I purchased physical copies of 3 and 4, and said fuck it! I loved the audiobooks of 1 and 2 so much, I’ll buy the full set. I bought the audiobook for 1 – 3 , and then the audiobook for 4. I plan to buy physical copies of 1 and 2, to have a full physical set, because I genuinely fucking love this series. I’ve collectively listened to books 1 – 3 around 13~ times in the last 2~ (or some shit) years. I think I’ve reviewed books 1 and 2 twice each, and I think that’s also why I’m out of shit to say, to be honest.

I bring all of this up to convey that my words aren’t hollow. I’m not just saying I enjoyed this series just to say it. I’ll lay into even my favorite of authors, the same as I would anybody else. If I had criticisms aginst this book, I’d have aired them just the same. I say this to make it clear that I genuinely enjoy this series, and hope my passion and enjoyment for these books will cause somebody else to give them a shot and possibly discover their next favorite series as well.
