I never miss a chance to recommend the Aurora Wasteland Literary Universe. This book is not the exception. It’s been a minute since I reviewed one of these, but I’m pretty sure I always say; the summary is just a shorter version of what to expect in the book. If you’ve not read any AW books, this is a good place to begin as anywhere.

It takes the ball a minute to get rolling. This is the start of a new series and there are a few characters to introduce. it feels more like an introduction to the introduction. Though it did warn me at the start that there would be questions afterward and not everything would be wrapped up with a bow. I’m personally fine with that, I knew exactly what I was getting into with this universe and was very excited for more.

True to its word, it did leave me with questions, though the warning had me expecting far more of them. For the most, the establishing story? … whatever you want to call it was wrapped up well. It gives you enough of an ending to be satisfied if the book isn’t your thing while leaving enough loose threads for those of us who can’t wait for more.

One issue I had with the book was my trouble remembering names. I often had to flip back to earlier fapters to skim names and remember who was who. Thankfully, it tells you on the fapter page who all of the characters are; The book really could have used a ToC though.

This is the first Aurora Wasteland novel I’ve actually read. There were times I found it easier to follow along than the audiobooks and other times I couldn’t tell who the hell was talking. I’ve always had that issue with dialogue in books though. One scene, in particular, I found exceptionally confusing at first was a police interrogation. That was when I actually learned all of the character names, I had to keep flipping back to previous fapters to see who was saying what. I did appreciate the little “reminders” at the start of a fapter. Two characters would part ways and it would give you a snippet of dialogue to remind you where they left off.

If you’ve read and enjoyed other Aurora Wasteland novels, then you’ll love this. It’s more of the same. If you’re new to the universe, bring a sense of humor and enjoy the ride.
