After I learned this was a prequel, my opinion changed. There are few instances where I’ll accept a cliffhanger ending, and this is one of them. While it doesn’t wrap things up entirely, it was done well in a way that has me excited to look into the series.

As for the mystery, I didn’t attempt to solve it, and I’d really need to give it a second listen to see if it’s possible. I enjoyed going along for the ride, though I found the bits of drama with the protagonist’s job to be utterly pointless and annoying. They never felt like they moved the story forward, they didn’t amount to anything, nor did they offer clues to the mystery or throw up a smoke screen to confuse the reader on who the killer was.

The narration was satisfactory. I never had an issue telling who was speaking, I could tell all of the characters apart without having to think about it. The narrator emoted well and her accent matched that of the geographical region. Overall, it wasn’t a standout performance, but she did the job well. Far better than most narrators ever seem to.
